Hello fellow Dr. Oz lovers! I am including a link to a recent Dr. Oz interview, which he reveals that gluten free is a total scam! What?! Before we become cynical about gluten free, let me make crystal clear the point which he is trying to make, and it’s this…. Gluten free foods are not healthier than one’s containing gluten. Bread, pasta, cookies, crackers, pizza, pancakes, waffles etc.. are not really healthy to begin with, gluten free or not. By taking these foods, and swapping them for the gluten free version, sometimes you end up with a higher sugar/carbohydrate content than choosing whole grain. Avoiding these glutinous foods, and replacing them with real food like vegetables, fruits, raw nuts and seeds, and clean proteins (food growing out of the earth unprocessed) is ideal. But, when you’re going to indulge in food out of a box, pantry, freezer… is gluten free better? You still want to choose whole grains, and i do recommend anti-inflammatory, low allergy ones that are gluten free, such as: amaranth, quinoa, millet, buckwheat, and some of the other favorites Dr. Oz mentions. If you are interested in making/baking your own products, i personally am a big fan of the nutrient rich flours such as coconut flour and almond meal. I’ve even found ancient grain pancake/waffle mix at Costco of all places.
